Ans: Classification aims to know the vast and diverse living world easily with less time and minimum effort.

Comprehension-based Questions & Answers:

Ques.-1. Explain the importance of binomial nomenclature.

Ans: To know the huge number of organisms spread throughout the world, binominal nomenclature is very important. To identify each member of the diverse living world, binomial nomenclature is a great help and necessary as well. Since binomial nomenclature is done in Latin words, and so the scientific name of any organism is the same in the world irrespective of its origin. As a result, it becomes easier for the people of any language to identify the organisms.

Ques.-2. What is the aim of binomial nomenclature? Explain.

Ans: Binomial nomenclature aims to acquire knowledge of the group and sub-group of every species. Binomial nomenclature aims to present the whole knowledge in summary, ensures the naming and identification of each organism and above all ensures the conservation of organisms beneficial to humankind as well as the whole living world.

Ques.-3. Why Binomial Nomenclature is popular?

Ans: Binomial nomenclature is popular because it is a proper system of naming each organism individually. In this naming system, the scientific name of an organism contains two parts- the first part is the genus part and the second part is the species part. Binomial nomenclature is the process of naming an organism using two terms.

Ques.-4. What does it mean by ICBN and ICZN?

Ans: The scientific name of an organism is determined by following some international rules. In this case, the names of plants are determined by ICBN approved rules and the names of animals are determined by ICZN approved rules. So, ICBN is a document containing rules of naming plants and ICZN is a document containing rules of naming animals. Originally, these two Codes are written documents in the format of book.

Ques.-5. What are the properties of the organisms that belong to the kingdom Fungi?

Ans: Most of the organisms belonging to the kingdom Fungi are terrestrial, saprophytic or parasitic. Their bodies are usually unicellular or made of mycelium. The nucleus is well developed. Cell wall is made of chitin material. Their food intake method is mainly absorption. Chloroplast is absent in their body. Reproduction is carried out by producing haploid spores.

Ques.-6. What does it mean by classification?

Ans: Classification is the systematic approach of arranging the organisms of the living world into specific groups based on their similarities and dissimilarities to know them better, to understand them better and to learn better. The purpose of classification is to illuminate the differences between the organisms of the living world, to preserve the acquired knowledge properly, to present the whole knowledge in a summary and to identify each organism to give it a unique name. Above all, classification aims to identify organisms that are beneficial for humans as well as for the whole living world so that steps can be taken to increase their species number or to conserve them.
